Tamara Aepli is a Swiss designer and scientific Illustrator. She first studied Visual Communication with a specialization in Scientific Visualization at the Zurich University of the Arts, followed by a master’s degree in design at Bern University of the Arts. During her master’s studies, she developed a strong interest in design ethics, with a focus on how visual narratives shape worldviews.

Her professional career began as a scientific illustrator in archaeology in Zurich, where she created visualizations for scientific publications. She later moved into medical illustration at the international medical research organization AO Foundation in Davos, contributing to the development and production of both traditional and digital learning materials for surgical education. Since 2019, she has been part of the team at the Zurich-based studio Oculus Illustration, where she works as an illustrator.

Tamara works closely with scientists to translate complex content into clear, visually engaging, and accessible visualizations. She has worked on projects within the health sector, academia, instructional design and marketing. Since starting her independent practice in 2021, curiosity and a desire to shape the world through design have driven her to develop self-initiated projects that address socially relevant topics and further establish her personal voice.

Tamara enjoys an interdisciplinary approach and follows principles of human-centered design to ensure that her work is both innovative and aligned with the needs of the people it serves.
